Canadian travelers and romance tourism increase in Cancun and Riviera Maya

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — So far this year, Canadian tourism has outpaced Americans visiting Cancun. Mayor Ana Paty Peralta says thanks to strategic tourism promotions, Cancun has recorded a significant increase in the arrival of international visitors.

According to Juan Pablo de Zulueta Razo, Municipal Tourism Secretariat, the Canadian market has recovered. He reported an increase from 9% to 16%, representing a 7% growth during 2025, while tourists from the United States has increased 2.5%.

The Secretariat emphasized that in addition to the recovery of these markets, ongoing work is being done to diversify tourism, which includes sporting events, health, romance, conventions, academic and business activities, among others.

“Thanks to its natural beauty, high-quality service and wedding procedures, 75% of the weddings held in Mexico are in Cancun and Riviera Maya,” he noted.

While an exact figure for the number of weddings in Cancun is unknown, there are approximately 25,000 tourist weddings performed between Cancun and Riviera Maya each year, making it a top global choice for romance tourism.

Juan Pablo de Zulueta Razo did not provide figures on how many Canadians have landed at Cancun International so far in 2025.
