Cozumel, Q.R. — A cargo truck passing along 90th Avenue caused a power outage after pulling down a set of overhead power lines. CFE were on the scene where a line of flames eventually self-extinguished before the entire neighborhood went dark.

The incident happened Monday night when the truck accidently pulled down a set of low lying overhead power lines. The fire caused concern among area residents since the burning lines hit the ground near a San Miguel gas station.
The high-voltage lines came crashing to the ground below where they immediately caught fire. Seconds later, the entire area went dark. Motorists were forced to take turns using the right-of-way method to get through the suddenly uncontrolled intersection until island transit arrived.
Personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) were fast to respond since the lines fell at the entrance to a gas station. Residents who saw the fire said they feared an explosion.

Power was reported out for more than four hours while CFE made the necessary repairs.
