Suspect in custody for extortion and arson of Cancun clinic

Cancun, Q.R. — The suspect in extortion of a Cancun medical clinic has been admitted into the city’s detention system. Police say Alexis “N” was arrested on an outstanding warrant for extortion and arson.

Investigative Police executed the warrant against Alexis “N” Friday night. He was wanted for demanding 30,000 pesos a month from the owner of a clinic. When the owner failed to pay, he and an accomplice set fire to the facade of the building.

Alexis “N” was arrested by Investigative Police, attached to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Kidnapping and Extortion Crimes, for events that occurred on May 13 of this year when the victim received a call demanding 30,000 pesos as payment for “floor rights” at a clinic located in SM 229, they said.

The victim ignored this demand and blocked the number from which the call came, so on the night of May 25, gunmen aboard a car and a motorcycle arrived at the premises and set fire to the facade.

After the aforementioned incident, the victim received a phone call asking if he knew what had happened at his clinic. He was also told that “they weren’t playing around” and that three more Molotov cocktails would be thrown at the clinic.

Investigations indicate that Alexis “N” allegedly participated in the extortion and burning of the clinic’s facade, for which he was arrested and brought before authorities.
