Isla Mujeres kidnapper who kept demanding ransom after killing victim captured in Nuevo León

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A criminal gang member who kept demanding ransom after killing his victim has been captured. Authorities say Eloy “N” was located and arrested in the state of Nuevo León and returned to Quintana Roo.

He is facing charges of aggravated kidnapping.

According to the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office, “Eloy “N,” is a suspected member of a criminal group that, on November 5, 2024, deprived a man of his liberty and forced him to leave his home in the Monte los Olivos neighborhood of mainland of Isla Mujeres.

“The following day, the perpetrators demanded 3,000 pesos from a relative of the victim in exchange for his release. The victim’s relative made the first deposit, but the victim was not released.

“The alleged perpetrators later demanded an additional 5,000 pesos. On November 9, 2024, they sent a photograph of the victim via WhatsApp as proof of life and warned that if payment was not received, they would kill him.”

According to their preliminary investigations, “the victim was killed by strangulation on November 7, 2024, however, the alleged perpetrators continued to demand ransom payments and later buried the body in a grave located in the backyard of a property.

“Eloy “N,” during the man’s captivity, inserted the victim’s chip into his cell phone to send the extortion messages,” they said.

Through technological, field and office investigations, Eloy “N” was located in the state of Nuevo León. In coordination with local authorities, they captured him and subsequently transferred him Cancun to face charges.
