Mayor of Puerto Morelos talks security with U.S. Consul General

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The mayor of Puerto Morelos and the Consul General of the United States met to discuss public safety. Late last week, Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz met with Dorothy Ngutter, Consul General of the United States to discuss tourist safety.

The pair met in Merida where Merari Tziu confirmed her commitment to ensure the safety of American tourists, the state’s main market, and said they will continue to work in coordination with the diplomatic corps of the neighboring country.

“We are aware of the preference that U.S. travelers have for the Mexican Caribbean, including Puerto Morelos, where tourism is the main economic activity thanks to the fact that it has a wide range of tourist experiences,” said the Mayor.

“Thanks to these and other attractions, in 2022, for the fourth consecutive year, Puerto Morelos was recognized by the World Travel Awards as the best adventure destination in Mexico.

“However, we are also appreciated for our gastronomy, which is one of the best in the Mexican Caribbean, for our nautical activities and the great first-class hotel infrastructure,” she commented.

Merari Tziu also explained to Ngutter the plans for an evacuation in the event of a hurricane and detailed the municipality’s advancements in policing and communication for emergency calls.
