Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — An afternoon two vehicle collision on Ruta de los Cenotes has left four seriously injured. The four injured in the roadway rear end are reported to be municipal city hall workers.
The Puerto Morelos Municipal Traffic Department received a report of an afternoon accident on Ruta de los Cenotes involving two vehicles. According to available information, the municipal employees were travling in a car that was struck from behind by a dump truck.
The driver of the car slowed down to exit the road when the vehicle following behind failed to notice and rearended the car at highway speed. The car was pushed off the road and into highway vegetation, losing a rear tire in the process.
The car of city hall workers was traveling in the direction of the town of Puerto Morelos after leaving Leona Vicario when it was hit. The crash left the car destroyed and all four inside with serious injuries. They were taken to a hospital in Cancun by ambulances.
The driver of the dump truck was arrested from the scene and taken in for questioning. That vehicle sustained only minor front-end damage.
