Man arrested for property fraud in Cancun, Playa del Carmen

Cancun, Q.R. — A man with an arrest warrant for fraud has been arrested by Cancun police. In a press release, the Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo reported the arrest of Julio T, implicated for specific fraud and generic fraud.

The FGE says that after an investigation, police found Julio T had likely committed the fraud in various municipalities within the state, affecting three people.

According to their preliminary investigation, the accused allegedly committed the crime of specific fraud in 2019 to the detriment of two people by alienating a Cancun property with the knowledge that he had no right to dispose of it, then illegally receiving an economic benefit.

Police say the crime of generic fraud was committed in June 2018 in Playa del Carmen when the defendant, acting as a notary, required the victim to pay 4.2 million peso for the acquisition of a property in the municipality of Solidaridad.

Prosecutors specialized in property crimes obtained an arrest warrant for the detainment of Julio T as well as instruction to carry out a search of his address in SM 310 of Cancun.

Julio T was detained by elements of the FGE’s Apprehension Unit and has been be placed at the disposal of authorities.
