Cozumel, Q.R. — The State Attorney General’s Office reports Jairo “N” has been charged with the sexual abuse of a Cozumel girl. He was officially charged over the weekend “for his probable participation in acts possibly constituting the crimes of sexual abuse, deprivation of liberty and injuries, to the detriment of a 9-year-old minor.”

According to their statement, “the alleged incident occurred on the night of August 30 in the Centro neighborhood of Cozumel when the suspect allegedly placed the minor on a motorcycle and took her to a home located within the Military Garrison.
“The defendant then drove the minor to a grassy area where he threw her out of the vehicle and sexually abused her, threatening to harm her mother if she revealed what had happened. He abandoned the victim on a boat ramp located on Rafael E. Melgar Avenue.”
A judge determined to bind Jairo “N” to the proceedings for the aforementioned crimes, imposing the precautionary measure of official preventive detention, which will remain in effect for the duration of the criminal proceedings against him.
State officials began an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse against a minor girl by a member of the military. Jairo “N” was arrested the same night the allegations became public. The girl was selling food on a public street at the time of the incident. Angry crowds gathered outside the Cozumel military base where they protested and set fires.
