PDC officers arrive in riot gear in response to reports of a land takeover

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police in riot gear were sent to southwest Playa del Carmen Monday in response to reports of a land takeover. Members of the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) arrived in response to a land invasion attempt in the Ejido area of the city.

Police in riot gear arrived at the site in southwest PDC Monday morning.

A group of approximately 20 people were found illegally clearing land off Avenida Juárez Monday morning. Those involved are alleged to belong to a group that operates in other land invasion areas.

Area residents who watched the group arrive called police around 8:00 a.m. According to their reports, approximately 20 people arrived through a hidden area in the back of the property and began clearing.

Residents said the group were also seen measuring and dividing the plots among themselves with a few erecting wire fences. Local residents notified both the Playa del Carmen Ejido and police.

The property remains under police protection to ensure invaders do not return.

Several patrol cars arrived with officers outfitted in riot gear. They secured the area and began talks with the group of invaders who were forced to leave. Authorities reported that the site will remain under police protection to prevent the group of invaders from returning to the property.
