PDC refrigeration warehouse consumed in afternoon fire

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Firemen were successful in extinguishing a warehouse fire on Playa del Carmen Boulevard Tuesday. They were not, however, able to save the building.

By the time firemen arrived, the inside of the refrigeration warehouse was completely engulfed in flames. Firemen were sent to the building Tuesday in response to 9-1-1 emergency reports of the fire.

The fire was contained and prevented from spreading to other nearby businesses. There were no injuries reported. Civil Protection and Playa del Carmen firemen continued to investigate the official cause.

In a statement, Playa del Carmen City Hall reported “the Municipal Government of Playa del Carmen, through the Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention and Firefighters, reports that, with a prompt response and coordinated work, operational personnel immediately responded to the emergency call to control a fire that broke out in a refrigeration warehouse located on Playa del Carmen Boulevard.

“The building was consumed by flames. Thanks to the bravery and skill of the firefighters and Civil Protection personnel, the fire was contained and extinguished, preventing its spread to other areas and protecting the integrity of the population and the surrounding heritage.

“The Playa del Carmen government, led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, reaffirms its ongoing commitment to strengthening the training and equipment of emergency services, ensuring that Civil Protection and Firefighters are always ready to safeguard the lives and property of Playa del Carmen residents.”
