Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A woman who was grabbed and raped by a man while walking along Playa del Carmen Boulevard remains in serious condition in hospital. The woman was admitted to hospital after being hit by a car while running from her attacker.
The incident occurred over the weekend with local authorities only now releasing details. The woman, who remains unidentified, was grabbed and taken under an overpass bridge at Colosio and CTM where she was raped.
She managed to escape from her aggressor, but was hit by a car when running across the road. A nearby security guard saw, what he believed, was people having sex under the bridge, so he called authorities. After making the call, however, he realized the woman was asking for help.
While the woman was crossing Playa del Carmen Boulevard, the alleged rapist fled, but at that moment, a Municipal Police patrol appeared responding to the report made by the security guard.
The agents detained the alleged rapist, identified as 28-year-old Elías N from Chiapas, who was recognized and identified by the security guard. The 43-year-old rape victim remains in a Playa del Carmen hospital due to injuries sustained when attempting to flee her attacker.
