Israeli news site says man killed in upscale Tulum apartment belonged to the General Security Service of Israel

Tulum, Q.R. — The man shot to death in his upscale Tulum apartment earlier this month has been identified as an Israeli citizen. It was initally reported that the man was of Uruguayan nationality, however, according to the news site Ynet, the deceased possessed Israeli citizenship.

Ynet has identified the dead man as 43-year-old Yehudá Cohen, who, in the past, served in the General Security Service of Israel, better known as the Shin Bet or Shabak.

Cohen was found shot-to-death in his upscale Tulum apartment May 9 after, according to his sister-in-law, three men stormed the apartment. Once inside, they locked the woman in a room from where she heard gunshots.

She found Cohen on the floor of the apartment, dead. Police responded to the 4:00 p.m. call for help in the Aldea Zama area. The State Attorney General’s Office has since began an investigation. To date, no arrests have been announced.
