Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun is reporting a hotel occupancy rate of 87.3 percent for the Easter holidays. According to the Association of Hotels for Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, Cancun is the most visited this Easter season followed by Isla Mujeres and Puerto Morelos.
For Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen Mayor Lili Campos says most hotels are reporting a 90 percent occupancy rate with a few reporting being 100 percent sold out.
The Integral Port Administration of Quintana Roo (Apiqroo) is projecting ferry passenger figures to surpass 922,000 users. The Administration says the figures refer to the crossings to and from Cancun-Isla Mujeres and Playa del Carmen-Cozumel during the month of April.
The increase is due to the large influx of visitors that have arrived for the Easter holiday season.
The Administration says estimates indicate that during April, an increase of 18 percent is expected on the Isla Mujeres route and 22 percent on the Cozumel route. Apiqroo says the increase in passengers is a positive indicator of the tourism boom in Quintana Roo and confirms the popularity of these destinations in the region.
To help ensure visitor safety, patrols have increased on public beaches around the state including in the far south. In Mahahual, the Secretary of Public Security, in collaboration with the Coordination Group for the Construction of Peace, carries out beach surveillance tours.
For the holidays, more than 1,300 security elements were deployed along state beaches. The ground deployments were reinforced by helicopter air surveillance tours.
The increased security operation will be in force until April 16 to cover the Easter holidays to help deter criminal activity.
