Riviera Maya, Q.R. — More than 1,300 security elements have been deployed to monitor and protect Quintana Roo beaches over the holidays. Luis Cresencio Sandoval González, head of National Defense (Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional), detailed the Easter 2023 General Action Plan in which the state’s destinations are being monitored.
The additional security has been deployed from the north in Cancun to southern region of Tulum. He says the Quintana Roo Plan is part of Sedena’s (Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional) 2023 Easter security plan that also includes Mexico’s other tourist destination of Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco and Veracruz.
He said that in Tulum there are 225 National Guard assigned mainly to the Jaguar National Park and the archaeological zone, while in Cancun, there are 1,125 elements backed by a helicopter and ground units.
He says the stepped-up security operation will be in force from April 1 to April 16, to cover the Easter holiday period.
