Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Mayor Lili Campos and Luis Herrera, the General Secretary of the Taxi Drivers’ Union, gave the starting signal for an electric bus for the handicap.
On Tuesday, the prototype was put into action on the city’s busy 30th Central – Colosio route. The bus, which is outfitted to transport handicapped residents, is 100 percent electric.
Mayor Campos said that the bus “is going to improve the quality of life of the users. It is an important step in the renewal of the service in Solidaridad.”
Luis Herrera affirmed that the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río union is committed to change.
“This inclusive unit with 25 seat spaces, has air conditioning and will travel along route 30-30, Centro-Colosio route. It’s 100 percent electric motor is free of polluting emissions, which contributes to caring for the environment,” he said.
He said that for the well-being of users, the taxi union is implementing this type of mobility in Solidaridad as well as other parts of the state, demonstrating that Solidaridad continues to be a first-world city, which requires constant changes, which needs to be renewed to grow.
Last week, the mayor announced that the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río Taxi Drivers Union, who operate the combis that run around Playa del Carmen, are in the process of testing electric vehicles.
Campos said the union was expecting to put four electric vehicles on city streets in coming weeks.
