Chetumal, Q.R. — The driver of a double long semi hauling new cars to a Chetumal dealership found himself in need of assistance Thursday. While traveling the Federal 307 toward his destination of Chetumal, he swerved off the highway.
The long heavy unit was left hungup in highway overgrowth as traffic creeped by on the other side.
Highway authorities were called to the Reforma Agraria-Puerto Juárez section of highway in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco to deal with the 10:00 a.m. mishap. There, they located the stuck unit with the entire first section driven off the road.
Guardia Nacional were at the scene helping to direct traffic since the semi left one lane completely blocked. The only open lane had to be used to accommodate traffic in both directions.
A heavy duty tow truck eventually showed up to remove the semi. While it is not clear how the semi driver lost control on a dry straight stretch of highway, speed was said to have been a factor.
There were no injuries reported, however, there was some damage to the new cars being transported.
