Chetumal, Q.R. — A man killed Thursday during a collision with a car has been identified as prison staff. Azael Vázquez Cortéz has been identified by the SSC of Quintana Roo as the driver of the motorcycle involved in the fatal crash.

The deadly collision between the car and motorcycle happened around midnight at the intersection of Erick Paolo Martínez and Chetumal avenues. Witnesses reported the motorcycle entering the intersection against a red light when it was struck by the car.

Local authorities have reported that the now-deceased driver of the motorcycle was a member of the Social Reintegration Center (Cereso) in Chetumal. The driver of the motorcycle was found laying on the pavement several meters from his bike and pronounced dead at the scene.

“We express our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. We wish them a speedy recovery from this irreparable loss,” the Quintana Roo Citizen Security Secretariat said Friday.
