Colombian man arrested in death of Cozumel woman

Cozumel, Q.R. — A Colombian man has been arrested in the death of a woman who was found inside a Cozumel motel room. On Saturday morning, the body of a 30-year-old woman identified as Paola T was found.

Police located the body when Emergency 911 received a call from the motel manager around 7:00 a.m. after a man, a guest of the motel, requested help saying his partner had fallen and was injured. However, an autopsy revealed otherwise.

“At first glance it was possible to observe that there were blood stains and I can tell you that the only eyewitness of the events is the person who accompanied her in the room,” said Armando Pérez Pérez, commander of the Ministerial Police.

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) has since said “The FGE Quintana Roo reports that investigating agents captured Carlos G, accused of the crime of femicide,” noting the arrest of the 59-year-old Colombian native.

Reports say the couple were at an island bar Friday night before leaving to go to the motel. The now-decease woman, Paola T, was a waitress at the bar. Her body was discovered with signs of violence Saturday morning.
