Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun taxi driver was shot to death outside his home Friday evening. The shooting happened around 5:00 p.m. in SM 250 where the driver was parked. He was sitting in the passenger seat of his unit with the door opened when he was fired upon. Family members from inside the home called emergency services.
During the shooting, his 12-year-old son, who was in the yard, was hit by a stray bullet. He was rushed to hospital from his home in the Villas del Mar Plus subdivision with undisclosed injuries. Paramedics also pronounced the taxi driver on scene.
According to preliminary information, the lone shooter arrived on foot posing as someone who needed directions before opening fire on the driver. Investigating officers were left in charge of the scene to collect evidence in the city’s latest murder. Reports say more than a dozen shell casings from a pistol were collected.
