Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A Brazilian man reported missing July 10 has been found dead in the municipality of Puerto Morelos. An official search for the 44-year-old began Tuesday after he went missing over the weekend.
The last known location of Gustavo Gabriel Espada was in the area of the Ruta de los Cenotes in the municipality of Puerto Morelos. Rescue efforts to locate the missing man included his friends who were with him at the time of his disappearance. The group were last together at Siete Bocas cenote when Espada became separated.
Personnel from the Secretary of the Navy, Quintana Roo Police and Civil Protection formed brigades to cover a search area of approximately 25 kilometers. The body of Gustavo Gabriel Espada was found Wednesday afternoon with the help of a cadaver dog.
He was found laying face down in a rocky area dressed in full motocross gear. The fanny pack he was carrying was still on his body when he was found. He was located in a jungle area near Central Vallarta. His motocross bike was located nearby.
UPDATED: An autopsy has revealed the official cause of death as a heart attack. On July 15, the FGE reported on the official cause of death saying a myocardia infarction is what killed 44-year-old Gustavo Gabriel Espada.
