Alleged Cozumel drug dealer arrested after uttering threat

Cozumel, Q.R. — A man alleged to be a well-known drug dealer on the island of Cozumel has been arrested. The arrest happened Saturday after he was reported for uttering a threat at an employee in a downtown hotel.

After the 911 report by the hotel employee, police began a search for the man’s vehicle. He was intercepted on Rafael E. Melgar Avenue. Inside the vehicle, police found the man in the company of his wife and two daughters.

A full search of the vehicle revealed gun ammunition and a fragmentation grenade hidden inside a spare tire in the bed of the truck.

His vehicle was left on the roadway, which was closed to vehicular traffic until Sunday, while authorities waited for an explosives team to arrive to remove the device.

The man, identified as Deybi A.C. and his wife named Denisse M.Z., were arrested. The two daughters, seven and four years old, were transferred to DIF for protective care.
