Woman returning home from Puerto Morelos vacation dies outside Cancun terminal

Cancun, Q.R. — A woman who collapsed outside Terminal 3 of the Cancun International Airport has died. The woman collapsed on the sidewalk outside the terminal Thursday afternoon.

She was catching a departure flight to return home after vacationing in Puerto Morelos. While walking toward the terminal, she fell to the ground. Paramedics applied CPR but she was unresponsive to resuscitation attempts and pronounced at the scene of her collapse.

Early Friday morning, the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) de Quintana Roo reported on the death.

“The FGE of Quintana Roo informs that after the report of the death of a female person at Terminal 3 of the Cancun International Airport, the death was caused by cardiorespiratory arrest, as well as heart failure and Wegener’s granulomatosis.

“It should be noted that at the time of corroborating the facts, the deceased did not show signs of violence or struggle. At the family’s request, the body was certified by a private doctor.”

Some local media had reported the woman arrived at the airport with marks on her face indicating she had been assaulted, possibly by someone she was traveling with, however, the FGE has ruled that out.

The identity, nationality and age of the woman are not known by official means.
