Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Two Puerto Morelos hotel security guards were rushed to Cancun hospital Thursday night after being shot while on the job. Police from Puerto Morelos and Cancun rushed to the scene after the 8:00 p.m. report of gunfire at the hotel’s entrance.
On site they located two hotel security guards who were reportedly shot while outside their booths. The guards were shot by subjects inside a car that had pulled into the hotel’s entrance. Both guards were shot as they approached the vehicle on foot.
The pair were hit by bullets in what appears to be an armed targeted attack.
In a Friday afternoon statement, the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) of Quintana Roo reported the start of an investigation into the shooting that left the two men injured.
“The FGE of QRoo reports that in relation to the events that occurred on the evening of October 12 in a hotel in the municipality of Puerto Morelos, it opened an investigation to find the person or persons responsible for the firearm detonations, with a balance of 2 injured people.

It is the second time in a week where bullet attacks have been recorded outside the same Puerto Morelos hotel.
Six days earlier, the driver of an SUV was shot and killed moments after leaving the hotel’s property which lies on the Cancun, Puerto Morelos municipal border. The male driver of the SUV, who is reported to have been a VIP Uber driver, was shot dead after his vehicle was riddled with bullets on the federal highway section of Puerto Morelos.
