Two arrested for posing as city officials, extorting business

Cancun, Q.R. — Elements of the Quintana Roo Police managed to arrest two subjects who had fled a restaurant after extorting its employees.

The two men were posing as City of Cancun workers when they entered a restaurant on Lak´in Avenue and demanded money through extortion.

The search for the pair began after police were flagged down by employees leaving the restaurant. The employees explained that only moments before, the pair entered their establishment and demanded money then fled on a motorcycle.

A search operation for the two was immediately implemented which quickly led to the arrest of 27-year-old Victor N 32-year-old and Helbert N. When police inspected the pair, they found the money from the restaurant as well as a City of Cancun city inspector vest.

They were taken into police custody and charged for the crime of usurpation of functions.
