Kantunilkín, Q.R. — A large water truck traveling the highway south of Cancun caught fire and burned. The vehicle was transporting empty plastic water jugs (garrafones) to the community of El Tintal when it caught fire.
According to information by the City Council of Lázaro Cárdenas, firefighters sent to the scene of the highway blaze were unable to do anything to save the truck since it was 90 percent consumed by the time they arrived.
The fire is said to have begun due to a short circuit. The driver of the unit, 50-year-old José Luis Mejía Pool, was also unable to control the flames, which quickly spread throughout his entire vehicle.
