Riviera Maya, Q. R. — Tren Maya tickets for the newly inaugurated section of Maya Train are on sale. Train passengers can purchase tickets for travel starting January 4, 2024.
The train service was put on temporary hold while additional routes were opened. On December 31, 2023, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated sections 1 to 3 that connected with section 4, Campeche to Cancun.
Now, routes from 1 to 4 are, which take passengers from Palenque, Chiapas to Cancun, Quintana Roo, are now operational. On December 31, López Obrador made the 10 hour and 40 minute inaugural journey from Cancun to Palenque.
“Excellent first day of the year for the Maya Train. We began operations with the first passengers of the Palenque-Cancun route. There is now a Maya Train in Palenque!” the Tren Maya company posted on X.
The Palenque station was the largest of the project and the station that will serve as a start and finishing point for Tren Maya travelers.
As of January 4, 2024, new Tren Maya available routes include Cancun to Palenque, Cancun to Merida, Palenque to Cancun and Merida to Cancun. Tickets can be purchased online or in person.
