Tourists topple ‘pirate’ island golf cart in sidewalk mishap

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Tourists driving an illegal golf cart on island roads were left with bruises Saturday after crashing. The golf cart is reported to be a pirate rental cart that is not licensed to be rented for Isla Mujeres roadway use.

The crash happened Saturday afternoon near the Isla Mujeres maritime cargo terminal. Island officers arrived at the scene after reports of an overturned cart. According to available information, the unnamed driver of the golf cart collided his unit with the sidewalk, resulting in a topple.

The golf cart was found by police laying on its side. The cart was carrying four passengers at the time of the incident. No one was seriously hurt. Police towed the golf cart to their facilities.
