Bacalar, Q.R. — A woman pushed out to deep lagoon waters early Saturday has been found. The woman, a tourist to the area, was reported possibly missing by her family after she failed to return from a solo lagoon kayak tour Saturday morning.
The unnamed woman, who was alone in her blue and white kayak, ended up in waters deeper than anticipated when she was pushed out by the strong winds. Those same strong winds prevented her from paddling her way back to land.
The woman’s family notified Naval personnel that she had not returned as scheduled, which prompted a search. The 56-year-old was located by personnel from the 17th Naval Zone of Chetumal early Saturday afternoon.
While searching the lagoon, she was found inside her kayak by the Navy “exhausted but in good health.” The woman and her kayak were brought aboard the Navy vessel. She was returned to her hotel where her family was waiting.
