Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The State Attorney General (FGE) says they are monitoring an assault case that left a PDC resident paralyzed. The agency says they are working to guarantee and enforce the victim’s rights to full compensation for damages, which includes prison time for the offenders.
In a statement, the FGE said the investigation is related to the assault of Roberto “G” in Playa del Carmen on January 20, 2017 in which Rodrigo “N” and María Fernanda “N” participated.
Rodrigo “N” was videoed physically assaulting Roberto “G” outside the doorway of his home in the La Joya subdivision. He was hit repeatedly and left a paraplegic. The incident stemmed over Roberto “G”, a neighbor of Rodrigo “N” and his wife Maria “N”, making a complaint about the couple’s loose dog.
Both evaded justice for years until 2024 when Rodrigo “N” was sentenced to 10 years in prison plus damages. His wife was sentenced to three years plus damages.
The FGE reported that on August 12, 2024, in a hearing, a judge issued, in an abbreviated procedure, a guilty verdict against María Fernanda “N”, accomplice of Rodrigo “N”, for the crime of aggravated injuries committed against Rodrigo “N”, imposing a prison sentence of three years, seven months and 22 days.

María Fernanda “N” was also sentenced to pay 6 million pesos in compensation to the victim, an amount that was deposited into the victim’s account on November 28, 2024.
In September 20, 2024, the trial against Rodrigo “N” for the crime of aggravated injuries was held for physically assaulting the victim, causing various injuries that left him paraplegic.

After the FGE provided the corresponding evidence, Rodrigo “N” was sentenced to 10 years and one month in prison, as well as to pay full compensation for the damages. This sentence was confirmed in the second instance by the Eighth Criminal Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice on April 24, 2025.
The FGE says “Rodrigo “N” filed a direct appeal against this ruling, which is being closely monitored to confirm the ruling and enforce the sentence imposed on the convicted person, as well as to request compensation for the damages in favor of the victim.
“With this procedure, the Attorney General’s Office guarantees and enforces the victim’s right to full compensation for damages.”
