Business extortionist wanted in four Quintana Roo municipalities arrested in Nayarit

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A suspect wanted for business extortion in four municipalities of Quintana Roo has been arrested in Nayarit. The suspect, identified as José Gerardo “N”, demanded monthly payments from five establishments in four municipalities. He is currently being investigated for extorting five other businesses.

Police have reported that José Gerardo “N” was arrested in Nayarit in a joint operation with the FGE of that state. Authorities executed an arrest warrant against José Gerardo “N” for his possible involvement in acts that probably constitute the crime of extortion in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Nayarit, they said.

The suspect is identified as José Gerardo “N”, alias “Texano”, who allegedly, since December 2023, demanded payment of 17,500 pesos per month for each of the victim’s five commercial establishments. The business owner has restaurants in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Bacalar, they detailed.

“The money demanded was deposited into a bank account in the name of the now detained person,” they reported. The FGE requested and obtained an arrest warrant for José Gerardo “N” which was executed Sunday in the state of Nayarit.

“Through technological, field and office investigations, it was possible to establish the location of this individual in the state of Nayarit. In coordination with local authorities, they captured him and subsequently transferred him to Cancun.

“Following the legal proceedings, José Gerardo “N” was handed over to the requesting authority,” the FGE reported. Police say José Gerardo “N” has five other investigations against him for his alleged involvement in extorting restaurants.
