Cozumel, Q.R. — Electricity on the island of Cozumel has been fully restored after a Sunday night blackout. At least nine areas of the island were left in the dark after a sudden cut in power.

Cozumel Mayor José Luis Cachón confirmed the mass power outage Sunday night saying the issue was in the hands of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
“Friends, tonight there is a power outage on our island. We are in communication with the CFE so that it can be reestablished as soon as possible.”
Thousands were left without electricity due to the blackout where some areas were left in complete darkness and others, only partially. The affected areas were reported without power for at least half an hour.

Late Sunday, Luis Cachón confirmed full restoration of the island’s electricity. Neither Luis Cachón or the CFE provided a reason for the island power failure.
