Long weapons, handguns and narcotics seized during Playa del Carmen operations

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — More than a dozen weapons and numerous narcotics were seized Wednesday during the arrests of eight people. Authorities in Playa del Carmen made the seizures and subsequent arrests during four separate operations by Members of the state’s Interinstitutional Group.

According to the State Attorney General (FGE), 13 long-barreled weapons and three handguns were seized during the Playa del Carmen operations. A total of eight people are facing a variety of charges that range from drug dealing to firearm possession.

A car stopped in the Marsella 3 neighborhood of PDC was found transporting 12 long weapons along with handguns and drugs.

“Eight people were arrested in flagrante delicto for their alleged involvement in acts possibly constituting drug crimes in its form of drug dealing,” they reported.

“Based on initial investigations, it has been established that the detainees are part of a violent criminal group whose objective is to gain control of drug sales in the municipality,” the FGE said.

One of the operations was carried out in the Marsella 3 neighborhood where a vehicle being driven with a man and womain inside was stopped. During an inspection, police found a variety of drugs and 12 long guns with their respective loaded magazines, as well as 76 metal magazines, a firearm with a loaded magazine, and a handgun with a magazine.

Three other operations, one in the Percadores Quinto Parque subdivision and two others in the Bosque Real subdivision, lead to the finding of narcotics and loaded handguns and magazines. A total of six people were arrested.

The FGE says the operations were carried out in coordination with the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense), Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), National Guard (GN), State Police and Municipal Police of Playa del Carmen.
