Thieves flee, dropping gun, cell phone in Cancun robbery attempt

Cancun, Q.R. — Two would-be thieves who attempted to rob a man in his vehicle left fleeing, leaving their weapon and cell phone behind for police.

The incident happened in the parking lot of a commercial shopping plaza in SM 310 of Cancun. A male driver was attended to by elements of the Quintana Roo Police who reported that two men had just tried to rob him while he was in his truck.

He said that one of the two men pulled out a gun, which is when he accelerated and crashed into the parking exit arm (pluma). Upon his acceleration, the pair fled, dropping their weapon and cell phone, neither turning around the retrieve them.

The police were performing routine surveillance when they received the report of an attempted robbery. They were able to recover the gun and cell phone. The objects were insured by the officers and transferred to the Quintana Roo Police facilities to make them available to the corresponding authority.
