Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The state of Quintana Roo is hoping to extend ferry service hours to 11:00 p.m. Javier Aranda Pedrero, the Director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), says the state is moving forward to extend the ferry company’s current hours.
He says the goal is to have the Cozumel-Playa del Carmen ferry service run until 11:00 p.m. Currently, the last Cozumel ferry run is at 9:00 p.m. He says the state government is taking steps to extend the crossing time.
Pedrero said that the issue is not a new one and is one that was addressed last year between the two ferry companies, however, neither responded to the state’s request to extend their hours.
Pedrero said it is important that the ferry companies extend their hours, in particular, the last run to the Playa del Carmen mainland since a lot of Cozumel tourist workers are left stranded in the terminals.
