SSC expands 911 emergency service to include legal and psychological help

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — To provide comprehensive support to all people who request help through the 911 emergency line, the SSC has expanded its range of services. The Emergency 911 system now also provides psychological and legal guidance to victims.

The guidance is provided by agents of the Specialized First Intervention Unit for the Care of Gender Violence. The services are offered by a trained team of psychology professionals who respond to 911 emergency reports.

In this process, psychologists are able to provide emotional support in times of crisis to victims of violence. The planning of the Specialized Unit also includes the participation of online lawyers who will be in charge of helping women at risk with legal guidance.

With this project, the Secretary of Citizen Security of Quintana Roo (SSC) will respond to calls in Cancun (Benito Juarez), Cozumel, Solidaridad and special attention to Lázaro Cárdenas, which is characterized by having a high population of indigenous origin.

Since the implementation of the services in August 2022 to date, the operational unit has served 7,345 people of which 92 percent are women who have faced situations of violence and vulnerability and 8 percent which correspond to care of men who requested support in crisis situations.
