Cozumel, Q.R. — Cozumel police continue their search for the owner of a loaded handgun that was dumped at the ferry terminal. On Monday, Policia Cozumel reported locating the handgun inside a garbage can earlier that day.
The gun was found at 8:10 a.m. by terminal cleaning staff. Elements assigned to the Ferry Dock arrived at the San Miguel pier after receiving the report. The loaded gun was located inside the public trash can and seized.
“The elements observed a white plastic trash can and inside it a firearm, a black pistol, so upon confirming the finding, the elements proceeded to carry out the seizure and chain of custody of a firearm, type 38 mm caliber pistol, black in color and supplied with a magazine with three cartridges of the brand.”
Cozumel police said the gun was likely abandoned in the trash can after the person carrying it saw the police review filters to cross over to the mainland. Using security cameras, they continue for the search of the person who dumped it.
