Safety operation in central Cozumel gets two jailed, three sent to INM

Cozumel, Q.R. — A coordinated security operation in central Cozumel Friday sent two to jail and three to the INM office. The operation was carried out by elements of the Public Safety and Municipal Transit Directorate in the tourist areas.

The Director of Public Safety and Municipal Traffic, Rodrigo Rodríguez Peña, reported that the operation is part of the strategies to inhibit crime, adding that the operation was in coordination with elements of the National Guard, Ministerial Police and the National Institute of Migration.

He explained that the two arrests were for insults to authority and for possession of drugs. He said that three people were presented to the National Institute of Migration to verify their legal presence in the country.

“The security and tranquility of citizens is priority, so we will maintain the police presence to deter any attempt at crime and generate bonds of trust with the owners and employees of the businesses in order to preserve tranquility and social peace,” he said.
