Puerto Morelos receives 85 of 150 new navy personnel to strengthen security

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A new group of military men and woman have been welcomed in Puerto Morelos. On Saturday, Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz welcomed the 85 members of the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) who, she reported, are joining in the surveillance being carried out by the Municipal Secretariat of Public Safety.

“Initially, we received 85 of the 150 members of the Navy that will remain in our municipality to whom we will provide lodging and food in an agreement with the Federal Government.

“We are especially grateful to Admiral José Rafael Ojeda Durán, Secretary of the Navy, and, of course, to our President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, for supporting us in a fundamental task such as strengthening security,” she said during the event in the Civic Square.

Tziu Muñoz said that maintaining security for the residents and tourists who visit the municipality is one of the main responsibilities of the administration that she heads.

During her Saturday speech, she explained that by guaranteeing security, certainty is provided to the people in their daily activities and to visitors who are offered a peaceful Puerto Morelos, and in addition, the municipality becomes an option as a potential investment centre.

“We applaud and welcome this event for the Integration of Personnel of the Secretary of the Navy, in support of the Secretary of Public Security and Traffic of Puerto Morelos, to strengthen our strategy of protecting citizens and fighting crime,” she said.

During the welcome ceremony, Eugenio Turcios Reyes Castro, Captain of the General Corps of Marine Infantry, said the elements of Semar are to conduct themselves with the desire to help and do good for the benefit of citizens with the kindness that distinguishes every military sailor.

“May your acts and actions always be with a view to maintaining the rule of law, peace and social justice. That they have the right reasoning to understand the social situation that the state is experiencing today and work for its improvement, being empathic with the citizens with a view to being an example of values and civility,” he said.

The municipal secretary of Public Security and Traffic, Alfredo Edgardo Valdez de León said “as municipal secretary of Public Safety, I am honored to receive the Marines, my brothers in arms who today, join the support of public safety that I lead. I am sure that we will make a great team to achieve excellent results.”
