Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Within the framework of the second long weekend of the year, surveillance and security is being reinforced in the municipality, mainly on the beaches.
According to Puerto Morelos Civil Protection boss Guillermo Morales López, hotels are anticipating an 80 percent fill rate in the more than 7,000 rooms available in the municipality of Puerto Morelos.
He indicated that close coordination is being maintained between the Secretariat of Public Safety and Transit, firefighters, navy and National Guard to guarantee visitors a quiet stay during the long weekend.
“Our primary purpose is to guarantee and protect the lives of local and foreign tourists as well as those who go to the beaches on these holidays,” he said. More than a dozen Civil Protection personnel, including lifeguards, will be on municipal beaches during the long weekend.
The municipal secretary of Public Safety, Alfredo Edgardo Valdez de León, stated that ground-level surveillance will include personnel and random filters at points with the highest influx of beachgoers.
ATV tours are also being carried out on beaches such as Ventana al Mar, Bahía Petempich and El Cid as well as along Ruta de los Cenotes.
Leonel Salazar Trejo, the General Director of Public Services, added that sargassum is being removed from beaches on a daily bases with the aid of two tractors, two sweepers and seven people.
