Cancun, Q.R. — A private vehicle fire that took out a large section of overhead electric cable left residents without power. Cancun firemen were on scene in region 107 after residents reported the vehicle fire.
The fire began around 5:10 a.m. and quickly consumed the old model SUV. While flames destroyed the vehicle, they also burned several meters of overhead electric lines.
Personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) were also called to the Urbi Villas subdivision of Cancun where they spent several hours replacing the burned cable and restoring power.
An electrical short circuit was the said cause of the vehicle fire. Police did not say if charges were pending against the owner of the SUV for damage to the overhead electric lines.
