Cancun, Q.R. — A 55-year-old construction worker was taken to Cancun hospital Tuesday after a concrete wall collapsed on him. A section of concrete wall that was being built as a perimeter fence collapsed at a construction site in SM 222.
Cancun firemen were requested to help in the rescue of , what was anticipated at the time, to be the removal of trapped bodies from under the rubble. A search dog was brought in to assist in locating possible missing workers.
One man identified as 55-year-old Ruben N, a construction worker from Chiapas, was found under the rubble, however, he was hit by the falling bricks while inside a portable toilet.
The man was using the site’s portable ‘porta-potty’ facilities when the wall collapsed. He suffered a variety of injuries and was transferred to a nearby hospital. A second person from the site was also transferred due to an anxiety attack.
The 8:30 a.m. accident had Civil Protection on scene who began an investigation into the worksite accident. The site has since been closed while authorities determine the cause of the collapse.
