Police find weapons, gear in abandoned vehicle

Jiménez, Chihuahua — A stolen vehicle located in Jiménez, Chihuahua led police to the large discovery of weapons and ammunition.

In a press release by the Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana, members of the Gendarmería de la Policía Federal reportedly sezied five long weapons, 36 heavy-gauge loaders and 960 cartridges that were being transported in a vehicle reported stolen.

The discovery was made during a surveillance tour in the municipality of Jiménez when police say they noticed a person suddenly abandoning his vehicle. A license plate run though Plataforma México showed the vehicle as stolen.

Federal police created a security perimeter after an inspection of the vehicle revealed the weapons and cartridges. Inside, police also found military-style ear plugs and helmets.

While the vehicle, weapons and gear were seized, there were no arrests.
