Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Water company Aguakan says they have begun a project that will introduce 5,680 meters of 8-inch PVC pipe for the city’s sanitary drainage network in Playa del Carmen.
The company says the lines will be added in the Pedregal, 28 de julio and SM 75 areas of the city, adding that they have just begun work on Blvd. Playa del Carmen between Solidaridad and Colosio. Work will be extended from calle 55 Poniente and 66B Norte between Carretera Federal and Av. Sian K’aan.
In coming weeks, the project will extend to calles Andrés Quintana Roo, 38 Norte, 34 Norte and 36 Norte. Once, complete, the new pipes will increase the coverage of sewage service and allow a more efficient collection of wastewater, serving more than 5,000 residents.
The collected wastewater will be treated and sanitized before being reinjected into the water table, avoiding contamination of natural resources such as cenotes, beaches and wetlands.
“Playa del Carmen has grown very rapidly in the last decade, and we have celebrated contributing to that growth for five years, making the essential investments to bring the necessary water, distribute it, collect it and treat it before returning it to the environment,” said Aguakan.
