Military releases new Guardia Nacional uniforms

Mexico City, Mexico — With the country’s approval of the formation of the Guardia Nacional, the head of National Defense has released the intended uniforms that will be worn.

In a press conference headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, General Luis Cresentius Sandoval, head of la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional, says that the uniforms should be put into action within six weeks, adding that members of the Fuerzas Armadas (Armed Forces) already wear the uniform.

During the conference, he explained that one of the details of the uniforms is the GN (Guardia Nacional) badge on the left arm adding that in some cases, the badge will be on the backs of jackets and shirts.

According to Sandoval González, they expect 21,000 men and women of the Army and Navy to be moved into the new civil organization. He says once they are transferred, they will begin basic training, which will last three months, followed by four or five more months of specialized public safety training.
