Tulum, Q.R. — Four members of a criminal group were arrested in Tulum Tuesday in possession of more than 200,000 pesos. The three males and one female were reported taken into custody by the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC).
“The arrest of Mateo “N”, Iris “N”, Román “N” and Domingo “N”, allegedly involved in the crime of Disobedience and Resistance to Individuals in Tulum, is made,” the SSC reported in a statement.
Upon their arrests, police “confiscated a total of 201,600 pesos in cash in bills of different national denominations of 100, 200, 500 and 1000 Mexican pesos. Six cell phones of different brands were also confiscated,” they added.
The four detained are reported to belong to Los Pelones criminal group. The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) reported that state police were carrying out tours in Tulum when they spotted the four people on the corner of Escorpión Bis Sur Street.
When they crossed in front of the police unit they began making obscene signs, spitting, insulting and verbally attacking police. When the four were searched, police located the cash and six cell phones.
After their arrests, police learned of their relationship with Los Pelones who they now know operates out of two criminal safe houses in Tulum.
