Tulum, Q.R. — A judge from the Tercer Tribunal Colegiado has ordered the suspension of construction on a hotel in Chemuyil. The provisional suspension was ordered when the company was found working during the health contingency.
The suspension was granted after environmental organizations filed for an Amparo before a court in Cancún. The Amparo claims acts of omission by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of the State of Quintana Roo as well as State Health Services and other government agencies, for not responding, attending and / or issuing sanctions for work on the property located in the Chemuyil and Chemuyilito Bays during the contingency period.
According to the document, the provisional suspension is sustained for violating the decree of cessation of work under the current health epidemic, as well as the failure of authorities to sanction the company and prevent the spread of coronavirus.
In addition to the provisional suspension, the Tercer Tribunal Colegiado has ordered competent authorities to use their powers for unrestricted compliance with sanitary provisions.
The Grupo Posadas project in Chemuyil has been widely denounced by the environmental community of Quintana Roo for building in one of the most relevant turtle nesting areas in the state.
