INM detains 72 migrants found crammed in back of cargo truck

Oaxaca, Q.R. — INM officials detain 72 people found crammed inside the bed of a cargo truck. The truck was discovered Tuesday carrying the illegal migrants. Officials were alerted to the presence of the people inside after a routine roadway stop in the state’s capital city.

Federal Migration Agents stopped the driver of the unit around 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night. The driver came to a stop several meters ahead of the agents from where he immediately got out of the truck and fled.

In the cargo compartment, authorities located the 50 adults and 22 unaccompanied minors. INM reported that the illegal migrants were from Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador. The 22 unaccompanied minors, 18 boys and four girls, were channeled to the System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) in Oaxaca.

All 72 people, 36 of whom were men, were found crammed into the back of the truck without water or ventilation. The group of 72 also included 14 elderly women from Guatemala.

Also on Tuesday night, INM secured 133 illegal migrants from the back of a refrigerator truck of a semi trailer. The 133 people were located after the semi was stopped along a Río Verde-San Luis Potosí section of state highway.
