Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A five vehicle highway accident caused chaos Monday on a section north of Playa del Carmen. The driver of a semi is reported to have had breaking issues as it took a corner near Punta Maroma.
In its failure to slow down, the semi cab rear-ended an old model cargo truck that was pushed into a third heavy duty vehicle. An SUV and a pickup truck were also part of the rear-end chain reaction.
One person, the driver of the cargo truck, was reported injured in the multi-vehicle crunch that left a long line of severly slowed traffic.
Transit elements were at the scene flagging traffic rubberneckers through the maze. Authorities had created a normalized flow of cars about 30 minutes after the accident. However, the arrival of tow trucks continued to hinder traffic as they removed the damaged vehicles.
