Riviera Maya, Q.R. — An elderly man died Saturday on his way to hospital from a Riviera Maya water park. The unidentified man was rushed to hospital in an ambulance after suffering a heart attack.
He was in the water around noon Saturday when he experienced the attack. The man was seen flailing in the water in an aquatic activity area from where water park staff removed him and began to provide assistance.
However, while being transferred in an ambulance, he died. He was pronounced dead on arrival at a private Playa del Carmen hospital.
A brief public statement from the water park company of Grupo Xcaret confirmed the death of the elderly man, who they reported, had a history of heart problems.
