Four PDC officers charged with aiding inmate escape

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Four municipal police officers from Playa del Carmen have been charged with aiding an inmate in his escape. The escape happened on April 14 of 2021 when a prisoner managed scale a four-meter high brick wall.

He was successful in making it over the wall in what the officers referred to at the time as a blind spot in the carpentry area. On Thursday, the four unnamed officers were charged with aiding in his escape from the Social Reintegration Center (Cereso) in Playa del Carmen.

The officers have been ordered to return to court February 22 of 2023 for the start of their trial. The unidentified inmate who escaped was serving time in Playa del Carmen for robbery. He was rearrested in the middle of last year in Tabasco.
